Can somebody answer homestasis questions?

Neural responses are automatic and immediate - stimulate the nerve, and if it's working properly it fires immediately. The impulse travels along a rapid series of sodium pumps in the nerve and across a small synaptic cleft via freely released neurotransmitters to waiting receptors. Hormonal responses are dependent on a) hormones which must be released from an endocrine organ, travel through the bloodstream, and then be received by receptors on the target organ to formulate a response; and then b) a feedback mechanism - another hormone which must travel back (again through the bloodstream) to the originating organ to stop or stimulate the release of more hormone. It's the difference between carrying on a conversation by phone or by Pony Express.
